FInally, a real excuse

February 9, 2014
One of these days, I will finally get into the routine of posting weekly, or even, GASP, twice a week. Today is not that day. But instead of just blowing it off to work or activities, I actually do have an excuse, but we won't spend too much time dwelling on it. I was hospitalized on the 20th of January for new onset Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and hyperglycemia. I was just too damn sweet! It was a surreal experience being on the patient side of the hospital journey to say the least. For those of you not familiar with Type 1 DM, basically my pancreas is on permanent hiatus, and therefore does not produce any insulin to help my cells take up the sugar from the food I eat. What does this mean, you ask. I have to give myself insulin injections a few times a day and check my blood glucose levels to make sure I'm where I should be, and my blood sugar does not go too high or low which can make me sick. Moral: the last three weeks have been consumed with nutrition, PCP, and endocrinologist appointments, and trying to adapt to a normal routine with a totally manageable, albeit annoying disease. So cut me a little slack :) To say I am fortunate is an understatement. I have wonderful co-workers, awesome friends, the best- best friend in the world, and a boyfriend who continually amazes me with his support, kindness, and patience in me figuring all this out. Emily and Cody have gone to all my appointments, and have listened when I have become overwhelmed, and have made sure to obtain all the information they need to help me figure all this out. I am where I am because of these people, and I thank God everyday for the love and guidance they all provide me on a daily basis.
In the hospital, pouting about breakfast.

Since we are not dwelling on the negative today, we are going to also talk about the WONDERFUL move of my lovely roommate Jacque! She moved this weekend to Washington to be with her fiance! I am already missing her, but so excited for her to start this chapter of her life. We were able to celebrate with her this past weekend, and had a blast! This weekend I spent with Emily! Friday night, we went out with Austino, and stayed at Emily's house and had breakfast in the AM. We also hit up the gem show, and then the UA basketball game with Austin and Cody today! So much together time! I am so grateful for my little family here!!
Love ya Jac!

2014- Let's be rational

January 6, 2014
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope everyone was celebrating for me as I was at work (wah wah). Don't fret though, Adam and I made up for it by having our own New Year's fiesta on January 2nd at 0723! We drank, ate and laughed until we both passed out, sometime after noon. Holiday recap: My parents came to Tucson and we had a blast! Lots of together time, walking the "river" path, and relaxing. We walked through Winterhaven which is this neighborhood that does this big light festival and had a fancy dinner before they left on the 26th and I headed in to work 6 days out of the next 7. Fast forward through work work work, and I have been slothing around occasionally going to the gym and working my way through season 1 of Sex in the City with Emily before she heads back to work tomorrow. Literally, I am in heaven. Alas, every week cannot be filled with tv watching and friend time, but I can't say I didn't wish it so. I have VERY MUCH enjoyed my downtime, and Cody and I have been able to catch up from his long holiday trip home and to Miami for New Years with friends. All in all, I've been spoiled. Back to the grind Wednesday, although hopefully with a new schedule (still night shift, just different days).

Happy 2014,
LB

Christmas Christmas time is here!

December 11, 2013
AHH! It's Christmas season! So exciting! Last year, I was a bit of a downer as I had to work and couldn't go home for the holidays. Granted, I did spend the day with my BFF Emily and her family which was straight amazing. This year, my parents are coming down to the desert for Christmas! Yay! Until then, lets recap. I went to the UA vs. Oregon football game which was AWESOME! We won, which made the game worth the rain :) We also went home for Thanksgiving. We ran a Turkey Trot 5K, ate lots of food and shopped! I absolutely loved spending time with my family and the dogs, which was bittersweet as our beloved Bob, passed away at home on Saturday. I came home the previous Monday and have just been trying to relax and get caught up on Christmas shopping. So far so good! I have had girl time with Hayley and Cara, Spa day with Emily at La Paloma and birthday events for friends! I also went to Phoenix with Emily and her mama, Jean to pick out their brand new puppy!! He is the cutest! Hayley and I also ventured to the northwest side to our friend Cara's house for the CRAZIEST happy hour! Enjoy the slew of photos of these events!
